Genealogy Books to Emulate

Have you ever thought about publishing your family history research but didn’t know where to begin? Forgetting the technical challenges for a moment, how would you organize the material? What is the best way to present a book-length genealogy?

The answer is, emulate the award winners! Numerous genealogical societies give awards for excellent published family histories. You can use any of them as a model for your own work. You can even mix and match your favorite features from a lot of different books.

Now, you ask, how do I find award-winning genealogies? The Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, Missouri has made that easy. They mark genealogies in their collection with “Award Winner” stickers. For those of us who can’t make the trip to the center, they have provided a handy PDF list of winners of many major awards.

With the Midwest Genealogy Center’s help, we don’t have to look far for award-winning genealogies to emulate!
