NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” Returns Tonight

In a day and age where Hollywood constantly rewards mediocrity with ridiculous TV shows that highlight ignorance (i.e. an incompetent and spoiled Jersey girl named Snooky (yes really, that is her name) or a teen that has found herself in the unfortunate circumstance of getting pregnant and landing a TV deal for it), it is great to see a network step up with a reality show that has depth and quality. “Who Do You Think You Are?” actually highlights the family, instead of dragging it down.
Tonight is the season premier of the second season of NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?”, which will air at 8/7 c. The first episode features Vanessa Williams and future episodes will explore the family histories of Tim McGraw,  Lionel Richie, Rosie O’Donnell, Kim Cattrall, Steve Buscemi,  Ashley Judd, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Also, as a special treat, in tonight’s premier you will see Natalie Cottrill, the General Manager of Ancestry.com’s research division ProGenealogists.  She had a great time filming with Vanessa, so make sure you send her your congratulations if you see her walking through the Family History Library.

Ancestry.com has done a great job in teaming up with NBC to bring this TV show to all of us who are looking to bring genealogy and family history to the forefront of the world.  If you haven’t had a chance to see any of last season’s episodes, I highly recommend you schedule some time this evening to sit down and enjoy Vanessa Williams’s episode as she discovers her family’s journey. (You’re probably snowed in anyway, right?) I think it is time we start rewarding shows and their networks for giving us entertainment that everyone in our families can watch and enjoy.

If you missed last season, there are still a few episodes available on Hulu.com (although they expire very soon). Plus you can watch sneak peaks of several of the episodes for Season Two.
